Organic Food
Organic Food and your health
There are many vitamins and minerals contained within organic
food, this is probably due to the way the organic food it is
grown. Chemicals are not used in farming organic food, instead
natural systems for keeping pests under control and fertilising
the soil are used.
All the vital nutrients that are needed for the soil in organic
food are given by the organic farmers, and not just those that
make the plants grow. Nutrients that are vital to our bodies
are given to the plants and crops so that the organic food gives
us all the goodness we need.
After the organic food has left the farm it needs to remain
as pure as possible, we do this by using:
- No hydrogenated fats
- No GMOs (genetically modified organisms)
- No pesticide residues
- No nasty additives
There is no food available at present that is better for you
than organic food. If you want to look after yours and your families
health then it makes perfect sense to eat organic food.
Organic Food and Animal Welfare
Why organic food and farming also affects the animals.
Animals looked after the organic way means good quality food
for me and you, and the animals are respected and looked after.
Remember when you are browsing the supermarkets or shops for
your meat that the reason the organic meat id more expensive
is because the animals must by law be looked after well. This
means supplying good living conditions, nutritional food and
well being for the animals. Which is much better that relying
on drugs to treat illness to keep the animals fairly ok.
Organic animals have access to the outdoors, unlike conventionally
farmed animals they are not cramped in stressful living conditions.
Organically reared animals are not given GM (genetically modified)
food, routine antibiotics or growth promoting drugs. The caring
for the animals continues after they have left the farm, as transport
and slaughter are made as humane as possible.
Organic Food and the Environment
Organic food is grown without using unnecessary chemicals,
which is good for both you and the environment. Working with
nature instead of against it.
On organic farms, trees, hedges, and wide un-farmed field
edges are important. Because these provide habitats for natural
predators such as spiders, birds and beetles which control pests.
Natural preditors such as birds, spiders, insects, beetles,
etc need the nautral hedgerows to live in and feed from. Non-organic
farms don't have the large amount of un-farmed field edges, and
hedgerows. This doesn't help the wildlife, and in turn pest control.
Pesticides used on non-organic farms kills many forms of wildlife,
especially birds. Since their use on farmlands, birds are in
massive decline. When you buy organic food you are supporting
our countryside and environment.
Organic farms that produce organic food must have, over 5
times as many wild plants, and 44% cent more birds in the fields.
Artificial fertilisers are banned in organic farming because
they pollute our waters. Instead of using these artificial fertilisers
organic farmers use crop rotation, planting crops which naturally
feed nitrogen to the soil and using compost manure.
Organic Food and your Kids
Organic food is important for all of us but even more important
for your growing child. Over 50% of all baby food sales are organic
- many parents want the best for their child.
To give our children the best possible chance in the future
they need to be given good wholesome organic foods. There are
studies that show organic food to contain more essential fatty
acids such as omega 3, these play an important role in the development
of our brain.
When the safety tests on food are carried out they do not
take into consideration the difference between children and adults.
Because of there smaller size children risk eating up to five
times more chemical residues than adults.
Organic food often has a more subtle colour because harmful
artificial colours can not be used. There are problems with some
additives causing hyperactivity especially in children. Organic
food does not allow additives that have health risks. When you
eat organic food you can rest assure that research has been done
to provide you with food you can trust.
When you buy food for your children remember that the organic
food will always have more vitamins and minerals and contain
no harmful additives.
