How to Obtain Optimum Health - Ten Steps
Developing positive health habits it the key to a healthy
life, this is not as hard as it sounds. Positive health habits
will improve your wellbeing, and this not only helps with illness
but gives you a profound sense of positive health. There are
some great sayings that describe this challenge to good health,
here are a few to help inspire you:
"Champions know there are no shortcuts to the top. They
climb the mountain one step at a time. They have no use for helicopters!"
"Progress, of the best kind, is comparatively slow. Great
results cannot be achieved at once; and we must be satisfied
to advance in life as we walk, step by step."
"One may walk over the highest mountain one step at a
time."
With these sayings in mind here are your 10 steps to great
health.
- 1. Fruit and Vegetables
Eat at least 3 portions of fruit every day and at least 3 portions
of vegetables every day. Especially root vegetables such as carrots,
dark green leafy vegetables, sweet potatoes, pumpkin, green beans,
silverbeet, broccoli, spinach, peas and capsicums. On the fruit
side you should eat apples, berries, pears, melon, citrus fruit
and bananas. Eat local produce where ever possible, also fresh,
seasonal, organic, raw food as much as possible.
- 2. Avoid Refined Carbohydrates
Refined carbohydrates are things like white bread and rice, you
need to avoid these as much as possible and eat more complex
and unrefined carbohydrates such as whole grain starches. These
are brown rice, wholemeal bread, wholemeal pasta, pulses and
beans.
- 3. Essential Fats
This one is sometimes overlooked but it is actually very important.
Eat foods that are rich in essential fats such as oily fish,
seeds, and cold pressed oils. Some examples of these types of
foods are, salmon, sardines and mackerel, flax, hemp, sunflower
and pumpkin seeds, and flaxseed or hempseed oil.
- 4. Harmful Fats
Reduce your intake of harmful fats such as 'hydrogenated' fat,
BBQ'd or browned food and excessive amounts of animal fats. This
one is as important as the one about (No. 3).
- 5. Animal Protein, Vegetable Protein
Eat a small amount of animal proteins such as dairy and meat,
and eat more vegetable proteins such as seeds, nuts, lentils,
beans and tofu.
- 6. Water
Drink a minimum amount of six glasses of filtered or mineral
water every day, also drink plenty of diluted juices or herbal
tea, why not try getting a juicer and using it every day!
- 7. Fasting
Do one short fast at least twice a year, however you do need
to get advice before you do something like this.
- 8. Minimise Things That Are Bad For You
Things like caffeine, salt, over-processed foods, food additives,
sugar, alcohol and cigarette smoke - minimise your intake of
all these things.
- 9. Exercise
Regular exercise can help in many ways it can help reduce stress
levels, exercises all you vital organs and gives you a natural
high. You also need to make sure you have enough down time for
yourself, to chill out. Another way to help reduce stress is
get an animal - a dog or cat, it has been proven that having
an animal in your life reduces your stress levels.
- 10. Supplements
Take 1,000mg of vitamin C and a high strength multivitamin/mineral
every day. you may actually need more but this is a good place
to start, seek advice if you are not sure.
Incorporating these habits into your normal routine will help,
and can have an amazing effect on your wellbeing and health.
